Ocean Icechunks is a project by the ocean hackweeks community to provide cloud-native, Zarr-compatible access to ocean datasets using Icechunk and VirtualiZarr (mainly). These repositories create lightweight access layers over existing scientific data—often leaving the original NetCDF files in their authoritative public object stores—while making the datasets easier to discover and work with using tools such as xarray. The organization is intended to support research, teaching, and development of scalable workflows for ocean data. To contribute, reach out to @eeholmes.
