Planet Crisis Response: Venezuela Earthquake, June 2026

Satellite imagery documenting the magnitude earthquake that struck Venezuela's Caribbean coast on 24 June 2026, affecting Caracas, La Guaira, Catia La Mar, Puerto Cabello, Valencia, Ocumare de la Costa and Yumare and causing extensive damage. Released through the Planet Crisis Response Program.

This repository packages that imagery as a clean, cloud-native STAC / Portolan catalog: pre-event basemaps for before/after comparison, and post-event 50 cm collects organised by affected location, each scene bundling true-colour, analytic and quality-mask COGs.

What's in this release

• Planet Global Quarterly Mosaic, Q1 2026 — pre-event medium-resolution (~4.8 m) RGB basemap over the affected region, for before/after comparison.
• SkySat and Pelican collects at 50 cm over the affected areas (26–28 June 2026): visual (true-colour), pansharpened 4-band analytic, and usable-data masks (UDM2).
• Additional data may be added as it becomes available.

Both pre-event and post-event are single STAC Collections directly under the root — their Items appear without clicking through an intermediate catalog. Post-event's 17 scenes are each titled by location and time (with location / location_slug properties); its COGs sit in by-location folders (post-event/<location>/items/<scene-id>/). Pre-event has 40 basemap tile Items (each with a quad thumbnail) plus a single merged COG covering the whole region. Each collection has an items.parquet (STAC-GeoParquet) index.
