This dataset contains Environment Agency LiDAR-derived Digital Elevation Models for England, both Digital Terrain Models and Digital Surface Models.
These have been taken from the original National LiDAR Programme data, and converted to Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF format with STAC catalogues. The original data is released under the Open Government License, which allows redistribution with attribution, and this conversion is also released under the Open Government License.
See the README file below for more information.
This dataset consists of cloud-native versions of the Environment Agency LiDAR DEMs (DTMs and First Return DSMs) for England, in Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG) format with STAC catalogs. You can use the STAC catalog from GDAL, Python or any other tool, or view the live webmap here.
This data is all taken from the Environment Agency National LiDAR Programme dataset which was released under the Open Government License, which allows redistribution. The data has been converted and processed by Robin Wilson at Rebalance Earth, and this conversion is also released under the Open Government License.

All the code for the webmap is available in the webmap folder - it uses libraries including MapLibre, deck.gl, deck.gl-raster and deck.gl-geotiff. The webmap was mostly written by Claude.
GDAL can read directly from STAC GeoParquet files using the GTI driver. For example, download the relevant STAC GeoParquet file and then run:
gdal raster info GTI:stac_items.parquet
to see info about the dataset. And then to query a point in the dataset, try:
and to extract a bbox of data from the dataset, try:
Various libraries can be used to access the STAC catalog from Python and mosaic the data, including stackstac and odc-stac, but these don't work so well with static STAC catalogs. Instead, I recommend lazycogs which can be used like this:
Note that you need to provide the bbox in the co-ordinates of the data, which are EPSG:27700, so I used a utility function:
