smartmaps/japan-geotiff-demの更新済みGSI DEMデータから生成した、Mapterhorn互換の地形タイル（PMTiles, Terrarium/WebP）。upstream mapterhorn/mapterhorn が本更新を取り込み次第、このプロダクトは役目を終える。
Status: interim bridge product, not an official Mapterhorn distribution
channel. Mapterhorn is the upstream project
this data is formatted for and modeled after; this product exists only
because upstream's own Japan 1m elevation source (jpdem1a) hasn't yet
picked up a July 2026 GSI survey update for Hokkaido. Once it does, this
product should be considered retired — check
mapterhorn.com for the official tiles first.

japan.pmtiles is a single, ever-growing archive -- the same URL keeps
working as coverage expands from Hokkaido today toward the rest of
Japan later, so this link and any bookmark of it stay valid. It's
rebuilt (all currently-produced tiles remerged) each time coverage
grows, not incrementally, so expect this file's size to grow with
total coverage rather than staying small.
Terrain tiles in Mapterhorn's own format: PMTiles archives, Terrarium
encoding, WebP tiles, 512×512px, generated with
hfu/mapterhorn (a fork of
mapterhorn/mapterhorn carrying a handful of generic upstream bug fixes,
see that repo's FORK_NOTES.md) from freshly-reprocessed GSI DEM data
published at
smartmaps/japan-geotiff-dem
-- 1m where available, falling back to 5m/10m via Mapterhorn's own
priority-merge where 1m coverage has gaps (GSI's 1m LIDAR survey
doesn't cover 100% of the land area).
japan.pmtiles is the merged, ready-to-view archive (see Preview
above). The per-region {z}-{x}-{y}.pmtiles files (Mapterhorn's own
bundle naming, z/x/y identifying the zoom-6 tile each covers) are also
present for anyone who wants unmerged pieces. Coverage is partial and
grows incrementally as more of Hokkaido is reprocessed -- this file
won't always describe the current extent; browse this product's file
listing for what's actually present.
Encoding: elevation = (R × 256 + G + B / 256) - 32768 (meters).

This product's own packaging (tiling, encoding, bundling) is CC0-1.0; that does not waive GSI's own attribution requirement on the underlying elevation data, which is a condition of GSI's data terms, not this project's choice.
