Brazil — CAR Property Boundaries (Área do Imóvel)
Property perimeters from the Brazilian Rural Environmental Registry, the Cadastro Ambiental Rural (CAR). National coverage, 8,453,552 polygons, as of 16 July 2026.
The image shows parcel density over all 8,453,552 rows, binned from the bbox covering column. It is an overview of where the parcels are. It is not a rendering of their boundaries.
What Is In It
One GeoParquet 1.1 file, EPSG:4326, ZSTD, 212 row groups, a bbox covering column, 3,258,574,258 bytes.
Every row carries the single theme Area do Imovel, the property perimeter.
CAR also holds theme layers for Permanent Preservation Area, Legal Reserve,
Remnant of Native Vegetation, Consolidated Rural Area, Hydrography and others.
None of those are in this catalog. They matter for Brazilian rural land
use and environmental compliance, and a later release can add them.

cod_imovel Is Not Unique
8,453,552 rows carry 8,437,938 distinct cod_imovel values. 15,614 rows
repeat a code that another row also carries. Deduplicate before you count
properties, and do not use it as a primary key in a join.
des_condic Values
des_condic gives the administrative evaluation status of the submission.
All sixteen values, with their counts over all rows:
Use the polygons for supply chain analysis whatever their administrative status. In any report on this data, flag parcels labelled "Cancelado" but do not remove the geometries, especially where no regularized geometry exists in that area. If you omit geometries that are under review, you omit sourcing area. The five "Cancelado" statuses together cover 152,344 rows.
The Quarantine Sidecar
brazil_car_area_imovel_suspect.parquet holds 2 rows. Their source
coordinates fall far outside Brazil, one in São Luís/MA reaching latitude
239,074,544 and one in Itabaiana/SE at longitude 89, so they cannot be
reprojected to a sensible location.
They are kept unmodified, in the original EPSG:4674 and in GeoParquet 1.0.0,
rather than dropped, so no cod_imovel is lost. They are not part of the main
dataset. Do not concatenate the two files without reprojecting.
Provenance And Licence
Producer: Serviço Florestal Brasileiro, which operates SICAR under Lei 12.651/2012. Downloaded from the SICAR public consultation portal and reprojected from EPSG:4674 to EPSG:4326. No row was filtered and no attribute was renamed or dropped.
SICAR publishes no licence and no terms of use. The AREA_IMOVEL download
is gated by a captcha and nothing else. Lei 12.651/2012 Art. 29 makes CAR a
"registro público eletrônico de âmbito nacional" but says nothing about reuse
or redistribution. The Creative Commons entries on dados.florestal.gov.br
cover other CAR layers, not this one.
The collection therefore declares other, not an SPDX identifier. Attribute
Serviço Florestal Brasileiro. If you need a licence warranty, ask them.
