Mid-Century Habitat Climate Exposure (Thorne et al. 2016)

Mid-century (2040–2069) climate-exposure index for California's natural vegetation, from Thorne et al. (2016) (UC Davis; produced for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, State Wildlife Action Plan 2015 update). Two downscaled global climate models are provided:

Value: a continuous, normalized climate-exposure index (range ≈ −1 to 1; higher = greater projected mid-century exposure). It is not a count or amount.
Processing: source 90 m rasters (Albers Equal-Area, NAD83) → reprojected to WGS84 Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF → aggregated to H3 resolution 9 with an area-weighted mean reducer (correct for a continuous index; never sum). Rollup parent resolutions: 8, 0.
Extent: California.

License: redistribution terms are not explicitly published with the source data (Thorne et al. 2016 / CA DFW BIOS) and require confirmation before any redistribution. The STAC license is set to other pending verification.

Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF (raster)

Render via titiler, or read directly with GDAL/rasterio:

H3 hex (DuckDB)

One row per H3 res-9 cell; exposure is the per-cell mean (safe to aggregate — no per-feature duplication). Roll up to res 8 with AVG, never SUM.
