Cloud-native mirror of the Instituto Geográfico Nacional of Argentina WFS

A public-read STAC catalog that converts the WFS oficial del Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) into GeoParquet for analysis and PMTiles for visualization. It is a mirror, not the canonical source: IGN remains authoritative for attributes, classification, and updates.

Snapshot scope

The synchronization of 25 de agosto de 2026 discovered 192 WFS layers; 191 returned features and are published here, with 1,865,509 vector features and 1.18 GiB de GeoParquet. ign:lineas_de_mareas_y_corrientes_040601 returned zero features in three checks and is recorded as a migration exclusion, not an empty collection.

GeoParquet is readable over HTTP Range; a complete layer download is unnecessary. This example uses provinces, while each collection README includes queries matched to its actual fields:

Formats and coordinates

GeoParquet is the primary analytical asset: attributes, schema, and WGS 84 / EPSG:4326 geometries.
PMTiles is the visual asset: it works directly from object storage with styles/default.json.
STAC 1.1 describes extent, assets, providers, licence, provenance, and translations.

Four Antarctic-geometry layers and one glaciology layer extend south of the Web Mercator limit. PMTiles limits display to approximately 85.0511° S, while GeoParquet retains the correct geographic extent. This is a projection limitation of the visual format, not a crop of analytical data.

Quality and interpretation limits

The extraction preserves WFS attributes. The source does not publish a complete dictionary for fields such as entidad, fun, fdc y sag; each collection therefore shows their types and observed values and avoids assigning unverified semantics. Three invalid sentinel coordinates and four out-of-range Antarctic-latitude rounding artifacts were corrected before publishing; the migration audit retains pre-repair copies outside the published catalog.

Each collection declares LicenseRef-Ley-27275; see the Law text 27.275. Instituto Geográfico Nacional (Argentina) is the producer and publisher. Nissim Lebovits (nissim.lebovits@radiant.earth) processed this mirror and is the maintenance contact. Source Cooperative hosts the public objects.

Languages

Spanish (es) is the source tree. en/ is the derived English translation, with STAC alternate y la extensión Language on every corresponding catalog and collection. IDs, asset keys, columns, CRS identifiers, and licences are identical across the two trees.

The catalog icon is IGN’s official high-contrast logo, downloaded from https://riesgo.ign.gob.ar/img/ign_red.png and linked as rel: icon on the root STAC catalog.
