Planet makes available select imagery for major disaster events, including major earthquakes, floods, storms, wildfires, and human-made disasters. These are available here in a STAC Catalog under a CC-BY-NC license. See the Planet Disaster Data page for more information.
Very-high-resolution (~0.62 m, 0.5 m pixel) Pelican scenes acquired 13 August 2026 at 15:44 UTC over Buenaventura, Colombia's principal Pacific port and the largest city on the Chocó–Valle coast, about 138 km south-west of the epicentre. Three consecutive scenes from one strip form an east-west swath roughly 34 km by 15 km across the port, the Bahía de Buenaventura frontage and the island city centre. Visual, pansharpened and usable-data mask products for port-infrastructure and building-level damage assessment. This is the first Pelican collection in this catalog; it follows the SkySat asset vocabulary, with two sensor differences worth noting — the pansharpened product is 6-band (SkySat is 4) and carries no eo:bands in Planet's delivery, so band identities are not described in the metadata. Two caveats limit quantitative use. Cloud is heavy and this is the cloudiest collection in the catalog: 47%, 55% and 39% cloud, leaving only 37%, 29% and 51% of each scene clear — expected for one of the wettest coastlines on earth, but it means usable coverage is patchy and the UDM2 is essential. And two of the three scenes report pl:ground_control = false, so their absolute geolocation is uncorrected and may be offset by more than a pixel at this resolution; co-register before differencing against any other source. 3 scenes; each Item carries the available visual, pansharpened, and udm2 assets.
